2010 Education and Training Opportunities

Social Media and Volunteer Engagement:  March 30, 2010

Presented by Josh Fixler, JFFixler & Associates

To kick off Denver DOVIA's 2010 Education and Training Series, we are offering a complimentary Individual Denver DOVIA Membership included in the regisration fee for our March Enrichment Session, Social Media and Volunteer Engagement.  The membership will be valid through December 31, 2010.

Session Summary:

A March 2009 Nielson Media report demonstrated that social media is now the 4th most popular activity on the internet, ranking higher than personal e-mail.  The social web is where our volunteers, activists, and supporters are spending surprising amounts of their time.  They go there to share their passions and their interests with each other and the world, and Volunteer Engagement Professionals are beginning to work to cultivate those shared talents.

In this session, we will explore the impact of social media on the nonprofit sector, evaluate case studies of successful Web 2.0 engagement campaigns, and begin developing social media plans for our organizations.  This interactive session will seek to give you the tools you need to use the social web to engage your volunteers in deep and meaningful ways that help your organization to achieve its goals.

Date / Time:  Tuesday, March 30, 1 - 4:00 p.m.

Location:  Johnson & Wales University - Jared Polis Auditorium

7150 Montview Blvd.  Denver, CO  80220

Cost:  $45

Collaborative Leadership Series for Volunteer Professionals

New for 2010, the Collaborative Leadership Series for Volunteer Professionals presented by Denver DOVIA will expose participants to the best practices in volunteer engagement by exploring some of Colorado's most innovative volunteer programs.  During on-site visits, participants will have the opportunity to discuss trends in volunteer engagement, gather new ideas, share success stories and learn from professionals in the field through hands-on activities and site tours.

Participants will work together as a small group over the 6-month period with extensive opportunities for networking and personal professional development.  Participants will be encouraged to collaborate with one another, create unlikely partnerships and share their expertise with other participants all-the-while developing their leadership abilities as volunteer professionals.
